Primitive people used to give magic value to countless things. In China before Christ, rice was a symbol of abundance.
One day a powerful Mandarin wanted to show off how rich he was: on the day of his daughter's wedding, he dropped a "rain" of rice in his vast land. Without knowing it, he began a tradition that lasts until today: that of throwing handfuls of rice over the bride and groom, after the nuptial ceremony.
It is a beautiful way of wanting good fortune and good luck to newlyweds.
