51-year-old farmer has 1.3 kg and 18 cm stone removed from the bladder

A 51-year-old farmer underwent surgery at a hospital in Jacobina, in the northern region of Bahia, for the removal of a stone of more than 1.3 kg and 18 cm in length that was in the bladder.

The procedure took place at the Hospital Antônio Teixeira Sobrinho, on Monday (20). The doctor who performed the procedure, the surgeon João Cleber Coutiunho, said that this is one of the largest bladder stones ever registered in the world

The doctor said that the patient reported that 10 years ago felt burning when urinating and a weight in the foot of the belly, but only in January he sought to know the causes. Exams identified a 10 cm calculation in the bladder and the patient was then referred to Salvador, where he was alerted about the need for surgery.

The surgical procedure lasted about 1 hour and, in addition to the doctor João Cleber, five other specialists participated in the operation.

The patient, who has not had a name published, is still hospitalized, but according to the doctors, he is fine and talking.

The doctor explains that bladder stones are usually caused by inflammation of the organ. This occurs when the body is dehydrated or the urine is too concentrated, causing it to form crystals in the bladder, which can accumulate over time and create a growing stone.
