Two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman will have been torpedoed. US blames Iran

Two tankers have been attacked in the Gulf of Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United States Navy, with at least one of them on fire. It is suspected that the two tankers have been hit by torpedoes in an incident that is managing fears of a conflict in that region. The apparent assault has yet to be claimed but US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has already blamed Iran for the incident.

According to international news agencies, the US Navy says it is assisting oil tankers who have been "attacked." The indictment of Mike Pompeo, made in remarks to reporters in Washington DC, comes after a spokesman for the Iranian government, refuting any responsibility, warns that "do not fall into the trap of anyone who profits from instability in the region."

Pompeo assured that the US will "defend its forces," accusing the Iranian government of planning a series of attacks on oil tankers to get the US to reduce the economic sanctions imposed on the country.

The United States will take this incident to the UN Security Council, added Mike Pompeo.
